Yesterday I went to see Anne's rather spectacular school and in her lunch break she decided to show me the woods around her school. Dumb idea, real dumb! Most of the so called 'woods' are really swamp lands which were over run with bugs and what made it worse was the fact that these bugs were hungry bugs and to them we looked like a cracking main course! Man I can tell you that I look like I have smallpox or something!
Today I just lazed around taking it easy, something that I am seriously out of
practice of! And tonight I went out with the girls from the flat to see the
movie "As good as it gets". (A movie that is more suited to my parents than
me). The cool thing was I spayed for all four of us to go and it still cost
me less than buying a single ticket for the Odeon back home!
I'd forgotten how trashy American TV is! Today while I lazed around the apartment
I watched some guy called Mauray in his 'Op ra Winfrey' style show, basically
ruin friendships by outing peoples secret crushes live on TV. It was painful
to watch! This one girl whole was about as big as a small orbiting rock, outed
her secret crush on her long time family friend who they had right there on
the stage with her. The poor guy was horrified and couldn't really hide his
feelings when she asked him for a date. He rather gutlessly said 'we can go
out one time' to her then I watched with other people across America as the
weight problem girl nearly bust into tears. I guess I'll never understand this
'Oprah age' on TV.
The radio though! Man, that rocks! WBCN is soooo cool. It plays the best music.
Not just chart stuff but a whole bunch of new and old stuff. Americans though,
love their guitars and so you can virtually guarantee there will be a guitar
in there somewhere. I have heard so much cool stuff that I am bringing back
to the UK! (Semisonic, Goo Goo Dolls, Matchbox 20,Bare Naked Ladies and The
Dave Matthews Band to mention just a few.)
The language difference has been apparent a couple of times. I saw a sign yesterday
that said in massive neon words "Liquor and redemption here". So what, you
go there to buy a beer and save your soul? Only in America! (Before anyone
points out what it really meant, don't bother.. I know)
Another funny sign outside a church said "Dusty Bibles lead to dirty lives".
Oh that's nice and level headed, a real non extremist approach there from the
Beverly first Baptist Church. Advertising the fact there religious nutters who
own dust covers?
